Thinking about going one of those directions.

I've had a Convert 2 for several years now as the DA from my B80. Love the metering and the functionality is great. Sound quality is excellent and mixes transfer well. Haven't ever used the USB thing though, so can't comment on that part.
Good, solid piece of the puzzle. Detail and expression is absolutely tops.

Tried both. Words of description are tricky with this converter stuff that is arguably subjective. I also think we can get used to, and even effectively use many options but, the Solaris left me feeling a lack of punch that I just couldn't be ok w accepting to live with. Albeit it has a nice clear top end and soundstage. Succinctly put, I just felt ...no cojones.
I feel more engagement and simply put, enjoyment listening via Convert 2. It's also wide. Although mix translation was my concern all this considered, I've personally had no problems with that since getting the Convert.
Interesting to note, My Dangerous Source is surprisingly close to the Convert and certainly, the same signature. Just a tad less refined up top. I'm now going to sell the Source only because I just don't need it's DAC at all now or, its monitoring. It's a sweet deal for what you get w it though.

If your monitoring is good you will truly enjoy hearing serious clarity from the Convert 2. It's an excellent unit.

The Solaris was wide open and super detailed but made the sound too soft for my liking. The Converts make the sound huge, wide, and powerful. The timbre is preference but the dynamic power of the Converts are not. It will be quite a drastic change in your monitoring if you're coming from anything with "softened" bass and treble, e.g. typical Apogee converters.

So - the word clock button continually blinks green when it's in master mode? Mines blinking...just want to make sure I'm doing it right. And that's a little annoying.

Not sure about it in master mode John but, I believe it should be solid green when it achieves sync. My Convert, as well as AD+ stay solid green when synced. I clock the MH lio off the AD+ and the Convert then gets clocked from the lio > aes.

I remember is that it stays on solid green when clocked and locked on sync. When it flashes, its searching for a clock and it’s not getting a clock or sync. I have a Convert AD+. Mine is on solid. But it will flash if it’s not connected.
My room is torn apart right now due to a recent Patchbay conundrum.

I recall this being annoying as well, but it's a slave on my end.

Yeah...the blinking is annoying... That was the only head-scratching thing about it. I kept thinking "surely not...". But, oh well. Beautiful sound and my ears weren't magically extracted from an album-making gnome god and installed on my head, so I moved on.

I still haven’t mixed anything from the ground up...and I’m now rocking the Amphions One18s/sub (again) and the Convert...but the bottom and mids are a lot more revealing. I feel like I’ve moved up a “sonic plateau.”

The metering is just awesome too, IMO.

. So it’s different for the DA? Yes, when set as Master, you get the blinking light. Interesting, I’m looking at the DA convert as I do a monitor upgrade. I appreciate all the info. I was wrong by figuring it worked the same as the AD+, my bad. Thanks for calling me out on that, I don’t want to be one spreading disinformation. I have been doing some research on the DA, but figured it would stay solid when locked. Blinking, yeah that’s annoying!

Not familiar with the AD+, but sounds like a cool unit and also sounds like Chris may have corrected that blinking light misstep. Good call.

Johnken you are demoing the convert ad+ with your apollo X?

Solaris is a major, major sound. Lowest jitter, most detail. I do not agree that it is soft sounding in any way. When I switched to the Solaris from Benchmark DAC I heard a whole new world of depth and detail. Seductive.
