Too integrated across all major studios. If it tanked, be the wild wild west for a while until the next "standard" DAW took it's place. And that's why I keep and still use pt10 which is a great daw but for clients that are staying in place I use studio one. I don't feel one is better than the other. I even have two keyboards dedicated to PT and Studio one. But I like one price and it's mine no bs.

I didn’t realize there was a ‘gateway drug’ version of ProTools again. Just installed it to have a look. Guess what: it’s crashed a couple of times while I was off in another app.....

PT / Avid is a nasty company that is simply hell bent on taking as much $ possible from artists / the music industry. It's insane anyone in this biz supports them, but they became a standard.. and how? By giving it away to major studios / marketing Bill Hicks style, etc to become the standard.
The question is: What can we all agree would be the best to switch to? I'm not a socialist, but corporate monopoly (the ditch on the other side of the road) is just as bad.
So, ok everybody, what do we switch to? Logic? Apple is an even bigger corp. pig. Trustworthy as a rattlesnake IMO. Nuendo / Cubase? I always loved it, and it is a very stable system. They definitely don't hassle you for money, but they do have the dongle. Studio One / Presonus? Somehow I feel I trust and like them more.
All we have to do is all agree as one. Like a group buy / buy decision.
My vote would be for Nuendo or Studio One. As I believe Apple would take advantage if given the opportunity.

Too much (years) invested in PT & don't really want to (or have the time to) learn a new system that I don't know how it's going to work out.

i felt the same way, really, and I learned Logic and Studio One in about a week. Pretty quick. Nuendo is also a snap and actually, to me, a lot more versatile than PT

Aside from their software, how do people feel about the Avid controllers like the S1 & S3? Anyone here using either one?

It's nice, the S4 is a better choice though, hate the flatness of it. I have to lean in far to read the mix knobs further up the buckets. Haven't used an S1 or S3 but have a buddy that uses the S3 and Dock a lot and loves it. The ingratiation is fantastic with Protools and with other things. I use it with Pryamix and ProTools.

I wish there was a clearer overall picture. I started with Logic ( cos I am a Mac guy :-) ) at home and now that I have a studio I am thinking I might need ProTools ... but if I understand it correctly I would also need almost every plugin too? So just to be able to have someone walk from studio x into my studio and continue their session I would have to pay PT licenses and a bunch of plugins too? I’m not sure its worth the business. Maybe I’m just too small a studio.
I have to say I am very happy with Logic ... even editing audio ... take folders, comping... even lately quantizing audio (which I try not to do) all worked pretty great. Maybe because I have never used PT I just don’t know what I’m missing? :-)
I do see more and more people saying they are either dropping PT altogether or combining with other DAWs. Its so difficult to keep your position at the top over a long period in software!

Build quality seem like it'll have longevity? Same with support of them? Avid have a reputation for turning big-ticket items into boat anchors. I do like the fact that they are supposed to work with other DAWs, since they are based on Eucon.

I do like the fact that they are supposed to work with other DAWs, since they are based on Eucon. It's not as sturdy as the old S5 made by Euphonix. But not bad. Have been using it since 2016 and so far been solid other than I bricked a fader pack during firmware updates. Which sucked. Just didn't take the new firmware. Support has been good for the most part. The worst part is actually getting them to renew my support plan. Takes months sometimes for my account to update. Tech support from avid sucks but it is also amazing if you have Jeff's contact who is the product specialist for the consoles. Which I do so I just email or call him and he gets back to me in minutes. It is nice it talks eucon so can use it with tons of stuff. I'd like an s1 and dock at my house.
