I’m moving soon and was wondering how neurotic I need to be about my 500 series chassis. When I drive from one part of town to the other with my to-go set-up, I lay bubble wrap down religiously and still feel my stomach drop with every bump in the road.
Now, I’m about to travel 1000 miles and the idea is making me frantic. I don’t have the OG boxes for the modules to unpack everything into, so I’d be traveling with a fairly loaded up 10-slot. I have the original box for the chassis, so the full system will be mounted in styrofoam, but the modules would be screwed into the rack.
Thoughts?

Buy a small 4u road case for the chassis. The modules will be fine inside of it. If it makes you feel any better just think about how UPS was literally throwing those boxes into the truck when they were delivered to you, and they still showed up fine

If you're really worried, get yourself a pelican or pelican style (check monoprice.com) case with pick apart foam inside so that you can make it fit perfectly. Problem solved. You can drop it out of a truck, or submerge it in a river. All good.

Or on the super cheap, bubble wrap the unit a few times, set it on it's butt (face up) and pack it in a cardboard box just like you'd ship it with FedEx/UPS. I'm sure you'll handle that box more carefully than any delivery person! The stuff is really pretty tough in reality. I'd be more freaked out about tube gear than solid-state.

I just make sure all the modules are screwed in the chassis tight and have never had a problem. Like others mentioned tube gear doesn't like to travel as much. I had to reset all the tubes in a Sta Level after it's last 400 mile journey. That said on my last tour all guitar and bass amps were fine, even after weeks of getting thrown around. Mics on the other hand always get the Pelican treatment.

Been doing it for 4 years and thousands of miles. No issues.

Heck, I just throw it in a suitcase modules in the rack and go. I'm careful with it, but really no need to worry to that extent about bumps in the road. These things get thrown around by shipping carriers all the time.
