I know it's not the ultimate factor, but those are darn ugly. Sadly, when you have to look at something every day it's a bit of a concern.
EDIT: They don't look so bad to me today, I guess I'm getting used to the aesthetics. Haha!

Looks aren't everything, but man. Those kinda look like a Chinese made USB mic trying to look 'high end'. Maybe Im too paranoid about another thing that can get glitchy, but not crazy about a microphone that can be controlled by an app, and has an available... dongle?Seems gimmicky? Does a floating capsule design like that really make a big difference? Haven't mics sounded great with traditional mounting methods? Are the reflections from a mounting post really that problematic? Hopefully the capsules are really good. Anyone heard these in person?
I was really excited to learn more about these, but feel a little apprehensive now.

Without my readers, looking at those two microphones, really gave me a crave for an ice cream sandwich or a Klondike Bar. (No wonder Lewitt came out with the "Subzero"!)
Well, I learned to love my Oktava 219. Like a Bulldog, so ugly it's cute-sorta.
The good news is there's less chance of any of these being stolen, if I just leave my MXL V69 (bling!) as a decoy. Chris

I don't think they are too ugly remind me of CAD E200's or some of the Violet microphones. But I'll take a version that's just, you know, a microphone.

I'd imagine the physical switches work just fine, with the app control being value+ They look fine, much better than so many other mics that look plain stupid and blingy with no apparent substance. Yeah, how do they actually sound? I'm a big fan of dual output mics. I'm already using their pattern control app with other dual output mics, the crossover option is nice to have. Tough crowd.

"Redesigned" C12 capsule.
In other words, it's nothing like a real C12.

From "Across the Pond", introducing the new "Ugly Toad" microphone. AKA the "UT". With the Patented "Tad-Polarity" switch-"TP"! Which easily hops from one pattern to another. Including the impressive and exclusive (cardioid) "Toad Solo" pattern. Its three(!) frog legs are a handy desktop feature, and an homage to various Vintage Classic 50's B Movie "Radioactive Critters". And a gentle reminder to any young children (and drummers) present, that it's important to always respect our environment-or face the consequences. Finally, you'll have that long awaited Super-Ugly Studio Microphone, that will always LOOK worse, than your worst singer SOUNDS! PAD (Poison Arrow Dart) Software is slated to be available soon. To help eliminate any clams. (Sorry not currently available on Singers) Not a watered down clone of even the coveted C-12, but a unique product inspired by many years of evolution, by our pool of experts. Headed by a retired Newtonian Professor. (any Product resemblance is purely coincidental) And it's built like the proverbial Amphibious Tank! Ready for the rigors of Studio Recording and more water resistant than any Rock Star. To paraphrase Churchill, now record "Over Land and Undersea", even on the fly. Comes with Lifetime Guarantee, once it croaks-that's it! Chris HEY! I LIKE frog legs!
But they don't taste like rattlesnake.

Forget the crowd, trust ur ears, I personally like what I hear. There is a German review here you can read in Google translate and got samples m.bonedo.de/artikel/einzelansicht/austrian-audio-oc818-test.html

As EmRR said, this can be a tough crowd here--especially on the subject of mics! I personally don't find the OC818 ugly at all, and the ability to record both the front and back capsules separately if desired is intriguing. Here's a helpful video with the OC818 on acoustic guitar:

Ooh that was cool when it was turned side on Cheers Wiz Yeah I was really interested in that. I guess I should try a fig 8 mic positioned like that. You could duplicate the track to a second identical one, pan hard L and R, and then phase flip one channel. like an M/S without the mid. At least, I think that would work.

Any dual output mic set up 90º side address is the same pattern as MS with an omni mid, if you want to use it that way. Wise of them to include that in the video.

But I would think that with the OC181 the dual sided capsule actually would give you a slight variance in each side of the capsule, correct? Someone here would know more definitively. It has options for guitar, but also piano and drum overheads. I also like the idea of running the back side of the capsule as it's own "room mic" channel and being able to pan it anywhere. The key thing still comes down to how does it sound!

I found this video with vintage c12 comparison. What u guys think?

Hmmmm, well it sounded closer to the vintage. Maybe not a perfect match, but certainly the right qualities.

I don’t have a ton of experience with the modern 414s but was surprised that it had more presence than a C12! All those mics worked well in the mix towards the end. Nice job on the new mic Austrian Audio.
