They are pretty readily available for $300 on eBay or Reverb

If you can find them for $300, grab them. Be advised the CK61 capsules don't really love extreme SPLs but otherwise are fantastic. There are other capsule options as well. My favorite is using a CK1 capsule on the 460 preamp with a ring adapter, but I use a matched pair of them with CK61 capsules also, and they work very well.

ive been looking a bit and i cant find anything on ebay or reverb for less than around $600 delivered for a secondhand mic.
ebay barely sells anything via auction anymore. its become a shop front for retailer's so genuine deals are few and far between. i almost cant be bothered with ebay anymore.
reality is i can get a pair of line audio for $450.

(as an aside . . . you might consider a matched pair of Beyer MC930s. I have a few 460s, 451s, KM84s and others, and I love the Beyer MC930s on drum overhead and ensemble duties)

it took aome time but in the next few weeks ill have a pair of sennheiser mkh405t mics.
the akg are proving more difficult to find for the right price.
my question is when buying used mics that are from different sellers how well will they work in stereo xy if they are serviced to be in spec but not matched.

Just a thought here.... I have three C 460 Bs. Two I bought years ago from someone I knew, and they were in perfect condition. The 3rd one I grabbed off ebay from (unfortunately) a dishonest seller, and the mic needed some serious work. It included an omni cap (can't think of the part number just now), which I needed. The seller offered to split the cost of repair, and since the price I paid was really low, I decided to do it. I sent it off to Richard Land in Nashville, who is an AKG repair expert. He went thru it, brought it up to spec, and even replaced the diaphgragm in the cap. I don't recall his pricing, but I remember it was extremely reasonable. He does great work and is a helpful, friendly person. Now the formerly beat 460 sounds like new. So, this might be an option for you. www.akgmicrepair.com/Regards, -09
