Those sound like a good build, with Neumann transformers, Neumann capsules and original tubes. Are the transformers vintage?

After hearing what you have available, sounds like you're good with what you've got.

Thanks for talking me off the ledge. Because they are "kinda real" 67's, but also because they aren't real 67's with a real pedigree, I'd keep them. I've kind of sworn off unknown (or only semi-known) custom builds unless I know I'll keep the mic forever or get killer use out of it because getting your money out - or even a portion of your money out is very difficult. In reality, in the mic marketplace, for most buyers, they are almost certainly worth far less than what you've put into them. Now, if you don't like em, that's a different story. Sounds like you've got a killer pair of mics that you worked very hard to get that way. I'd keep em, and find a different way to subsidize the Upton.

I actually would make money over what I’ve got in parts of I sold them, so the investment factor isn’t an issue in this case.

I could throw something up when I’m back in town. I have a spoken word comparison between stock transformer and Neumann transformer that highlights that particular difference. Basically takes care of the “darkness” that some people talk about compared to a vintage.

Indie, IIRC your "47 clone", is the Warm? Whatever it is, how do you like it? Chris

I would imagine it’s a lot different from the 67’s you have. Personally, since I don’t do drum work, pairing is less important to me. And I kindve like having two different mics for stereo acoustic stuff.

Well, I want a 67, but with all due respect to the other mics I have...I haven’t been able to stop using this one since I got it.

Haha. Well, I want a 67, but with all due respect to the other mics I have...I haven’t been able to stop using this one since I got it. Urgh. I don’t know why I lust after the Upton so much. I could scratch that itch with a Stam, but wouldn’t expect to have it in hand for a couple years. I do have a Tim Campbell capsule, a Haufe T14/1 transformer, a NOS GE 6072, a NOS RCA 6072, and a Collective Cases PSU enclosure (same as Upton uses). I had planned to build a 251 eventually. Maybe that’s what I should stick with. But that Upton...

Shoot, see I was just trying to straight "trade ya"! I'm throwing in my MXL V69me genuine TOOB mic then, just to sweeten the pot. Well at least I have enough conscience, not to try to break up your 67 pair though! (as tempting as these 2 microphones are). Chris

Its satisfying not having to wonder “what if?”. Of course, the flip side of that says there’s no chance that an Upton capsule & transformer sounds $3300 better/different than a Tim Campbell capsule and Haufe transformer.
